- Synthetic Aperture Radar -
Basic Concepts and Image Formation

Andreas Reigber

This tutorial should give a basic introduction in the the image formation process of synthetic aperture radar. It is intended for everybody who is interested in the basic concepts of SAR. This tutorial does not focus on advanced processing methods or all the problems associated with the SAR image generation. It just gives a quick look on the basic ideas. For further studies, lots of references are included.

The last chapter also includes some practical exercises in form of a processing of a small SAR raw data set. This can be used perfectly for the first step into SAR remote sensing (beginning PhD students or similar).
